Pebble Project Update

Knight Piesold Consulting, recognized worldwide for its engineering expertise, has undertaken a technical review of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) draft Bristol Bay watershed assessment.  In documentation submitted to the EPA, Knight Piesold provides comments and concerns related to the assessment's mine scenario, tailings dam failure, earthquake and seismic activity and water management models.

In one example, Knight Piesold states, "The assessment presents a mine scenario and assumptions that fail to meet the standards for mine development and environmental assessment in the state of Alaska and the United States of America.  The assessment report includes a flawed risk assessment that draws false conclusions based on past examples from other jurisdictions and mining practices that are not permitted in the state of Alaska."

In summary, Knight Piesold states "the assessment report is based on a fundamentally flawed premise that considers that a faulty mine design, inadequate mine development, and inappropriate mine operations would be permitted to occur within the state of Alaska."  Read the Knight Piesold Consulting report submitted to the EPA...
